Course Summary
In this presentation, participants will learn the full scope definition of addiction, how to identify addiction in their clients, and what treatment options they have for clients who need a higher level of care. Additionally, clinicians will become proficient in the basic principles of effective treatment, relapse, and relapse prevention principles, the stages of change, and the 5 Rules for Recovery. Participants will be able to apply these therapeutically in their practicing clinical setting.
J. Ryan Humphries, MACN, LPC
J. Ryan Humphries is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Counselor education program.
He is a veteran of the US Army, and in aggregate, has 20 years in uniform. He has worked at the Behavioral Health and Crisis Center [BHCC] in Marietta GA, and ran the Evening Intensive outpatient program for 3 years at Atlanta Addiction and Recovery Center [AARC]. He has given talks to the Southern Association of Counselor educators [SACES], and to the LPCAGA association. He is a passionate advocate for recovery, and mental health. His years of working in detox, stabilization PHP and IOP programs, and now in outpatient addictions counseling assist him and his clients in working through chemical and process addictions, as well as many other related issues and concerns. He currently is a full time therapist at Attento’s Kennesaw location. He is a published author, and is working on a book blending his love of cooking, and the therapeutic influence of cognitive flexibility.
