Course Description
The course offers a unique counseling perspective on Ketamine-based Therapy growing in popularity within both the psychiatric and therapeutic community. The course provides an overview of the mechanism of action of the medication and more deeply explores implications for transformational counseling work termed Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) that can be an invaluable part of treatment.
Introducing an innovative counseling intervention approach termed Common Ketamine Progression Narrative (C-KPN) for which a completed book manuscript has been completed, the training explores psychological variables that can be impacted through Ketamine Treatment and supported by accompanying therapy. The course is designed to uncover the mystery of the anti-depressive/anxiety effects of Ketamine and explore, with the reduction of symptoms, how the potential for deeper inter/intra-personal awareness can emerge. Exploring the dissociative nature of the Ketamine Treatment experience, the constructs of lessening of ego-rigidity to explore unresolved past trauma, ego fluidity (non-reactive cognitive, emotional and behavioral tendencies) and expanded awareness to healthier self can be explored more deeply with clients. Providing an overview of theoretical foundations that support Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and understanding per review the actual protocol for guided counseling work is provided. By providing an expanded understanding of Ketamine Treatment protocols and therapeutic implications, counselors will be assisted in guiding clients toward or during treatment from a stronger position of understanding Ketamine Treatment value and potential. As an emerging area of therapy, the course is designed to expand awareness around a common understanding (C-KPN) of how treatment may offer assistance for clients experiencing treatment resistant depression, anxiety and complex trauma.
